This page will give you an idea of what you can do with an older spa.  Using a little bit of common sense and imagination, you can replumb your old spa shell and at the same time, add more jets to provide a real "hydro-therapy" solution that is more in line with todays jetted spas.

These pictures show parts only, (completed installtion examples are forthcoming).  We will have a complete installation guide up very shortly.

The two jet assemblies to the right are designed by American Products, a major supplier of spa components to the spa industry.  Both of these jets are rotary "spinner" type jets.

There are 4 components of the jet assembly, Left to Right, the jet itself, the jet housing, the gasket, and the jet retaining ring that holds the jet housing to the spa.  The jet, simply slides into the housing and can be removed and replaced at any time in a matter of seconds.
 
This is the small jet assembly, note that basically it is the same type and construction as the large one on the left. 
2" six port water manifold.  They can be chained together for an unlimited number of jets.
 
1" six port air manifold.  Can be used with turbo-charging the water jets and/or providing variable air intake into the jet venturi by attaching the top "T" to an air adjustment knob.
Kit includes 40' of air and water hose for ease of plumbing to the mainfolds.  With the air and water sections of the jets hooked up, simply plumb the large 2" manifold to the discharge of the pump, filter or heater, depending on your design.

Just an example of a manifold based plumbing scheme.  Everything from the manifold to the jets, both air and water are plumbed using clear flex tubing, which is glued to the mainfold using standard pvc cement.
If your spa shell does not have a blower channel built into it and you want an air blower added to it, you'll have to drill holes and plumb in air injectors, as depicted here in this late model spa manufactured by Leisure Bay industries.
