Now that we have that out of the way, there are a few things
you will need. You may already have some of them on hand, so print a copy of
this page, and go to your spa "chemical locker" to check out your
inventory. 1. SPA PH Balance. Usually a one
quart bottle that you add the entire contents to the spa when it is freshly
filled.
2. Bromine Test STRIPS. This is what makes water
quality monitoring so easy.
3. A good quality SPA water "De-Foamer".
4. SPA or Swimming pool water
"Clarifier", usually a concentrated blue liquid that comes in
pint or quart quantities
. (may say something like "one quart clears
160,000 gallons, or 1 ounce clears 5000 gallons").
5. A supply of Bromine tablets.
6. Some type of water shock agent, either a powder
"non-Chlorine" shock treatment, or household bleach; (either
will work fine... I know... I'll get shot for this one!).
7. An adjustable Bromine/Chlorine chemical float
for dispensing bromine.
The last item is VERY important. The type of float I'm
talking about is one that can be adjustable over a very broad range. Not a
swimming pool chlorine float that has adjustable vents on the bottom.
They're too difficult to control accurately. (I prefer the "Tropical"
Brand of float, because the bottom can be opened without affecting the
adjustment.
That my friends, is pretty much it. Most items are
available from The Home Depot, Lowe's Building Supply, and virtually any pool
and spa store.
